“Introducing the Next Generation” to the arts is one of our most important goals. Dance Canvas works with our youth through the City of Atlanta’s Centers of Hope program! This school year, we have Tap and Jazz classes for students K-5 at the MLK and Rosel Fann recreation centers. Our youth programs help to spark creativity and inspire leadership in the community through the arts.
Our favorite month is February! We get to celebrate Black History Month and the students learn about Alvin Ailey and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater!
Our 4th and 5th graders had the wonderful opportunity to meet Alvin Ailey’s Artistic Director, Robert Battle and take a master class with Hope Boykin!

The kindergarten through 3rd grade students are introduced to Alvin Ailey through the documentary, Beyond the Steps.
They learn to take their expressions and creativity from paper to their physical bodies! Developing the connection of the two help students to explore creative movement and begin to learn choreographic skills.
We have such a blast with our students at the Centers of Hope! And we love celebrating Black History Month with them!
